It took three trips to bring Lehigh Valley Coal Co. #126 back to Indiana. On the first trip we hired a bulldozer to clear brush and debris from outside an area of the Roundhouse and pull the engine into the open where we could work on it. We removed all of the parts that could be taken off by hand at this time.
On the second trip we brought home the cab, boiler, and saddletank. This picture is of the final trip when we brought the running gear and the remainder of miscellaneous parts.
Once the wheels and frame were home we completely disassembled the entire unit and sandblasted all of the parts.
The wheels needed to be reprofiled. We traded a 1952 REO semi tractor in payment for this machine work.
We put the boiler on a set of wheels after removing the tank. This was done to enable us to move it in and out of our small shop in order to work on it.
The most significant repair to the boiler was the replacement of part of the side sheet in the firebox on the fireman's side.
When the wheels were reporfiled and reassembled with the frame the next step was to put the boiler back on the frame.
With the boiler back on the running gear #126 is ready to pull back into the shop for further work.
This is #126 back in the shop with a new coat of paint, ready for addition of a new cab and missing parts.
#126 as it sits in the shop at this time. Note the grid markings for the ultrasound work. The new cab is partially completed, all of the plumbing is in, and the air brake system is finished.
