During the time we were working on restoring #75 Barney acquired the remains of a 13 ton Plymouth switcher built in 1924. These remains included the engine, frame, wheels, radiator, and transmission. The engine required extensive work and a new clutch was needed. Several new bearings had to be put in the transmission and the radiator had a significant number of leaks. It was necessary to build a new cab from scratch; it is close to the original plan but with a few functional modifications. An air compressor and air brakes were added so that the engine could operate train brakes. After "Half Pint" was completed it was taken to the Steam Railroading Institute in Owosso, Michigan, where Flagg Coal Company #75 is located.
The following pictures represent some of the steps taken during the restoration process.
